Tim established an Alaska Big Year record in 2000, the year prior to his death, by observing 275 species from Attu to the Artic National Wildlife Refuge. Tim also traveled all of the Americans extensively in his 36 years and his North American life list total stood at 729 species when he died. For more on Tim’s birding travels and sightings, visit the archive page of this website. (click the map below to see Tim's birding travels) At the time of Tim’s death he had a library composed of several hundred books on birding and world bird guides. About 475 of these books were donated by the Schantz family to Prince William Sound Science and nature center in Cordova, Alaska. Prince William Sound Research Center is an independent, nonprofit organization organized in 1989. The center has established Tim Schantz Library where the books remain available for on-site research. |
